Hi,

How important is it to use powerpoint for a presentation?  What are peoples thoughts?  I'm considering taking a class if it is a critical skill.

Any ideas

Jen

I think it is essential to be at least familiar with all Microsoft Office Skills. A class might not be necessary for PowerPoint, as I think most things are pretty easy to pick up. Perhaps check out a "PowerPoint for Dummies" type-book and see if that helps.

Good call...I have read some other dummies books and they were good.  I just have to be disciplined and teach myself.  It is cheaper than a class.

It depends on you and your sales techniques. I have never sold using power points and I have personally signed over 1,000 customers. At the same token I know sales people who have never sold without a presentation. Go out and see what works best for you, maybe a combination of things...

Thanks and have a blessed day!

Stop presenting all together.  That will make life without PowerPoint a lot easier.  Check out a related video Stop Bringing Your Materials On Your Sales Calls

Definitely check out the class. I have developed a sales seminar style power point presentation covering a 4 day seminar. I am lucky to have a friend who teaches power point presentations. I could not believe how much difference between his work and mine on this presentation. The subtle ideas that highlighted the vulnerable areas of the presentation along with highlighting the very important points. Incredible difference.

I am not sure a power point presentations to help sell an idea to a company will be that much help to you, inless it will take hours to present.

I am here to learn and help others in search of information. With everyone having a common goal we should be able to help one another grow in our professional and personal lives.

I recommend Keynote over Powerpoint...if you are new and learning.  A lot of people say that creating a presentation on Keynote is FASTER and easier.

I know Powerpoint...it's pretty easy.  I guess if you were needing it as part of your job....it would be good to know.  I'd just ask someone in your office to show you all the key points (if you have it on your pc at work)....because if you know how to use a computer you might just be able to figure the rest out..

Very important.

Make your presentation short, colorful and positive.  Use it only when it "feels" right -- that style is best for younger, hipper people but may turn off the older, more traditional decision makers.

So, have it as ONE of many tools in your toolbag, but don't rely on it to replace your eye-to-eye contact and knowing the facts you need to know to close the deal

Speaking of presentations...I just won a little ipod nano at work the other day...I think it's the neatest little thing...I was thinking you could use it for presentations....it's a lot smaller than a lap top. Does anyone use that to present...or an iphone? Just wondering. My work had these pens with a chip on the end of them...you would plug it into a computer/lap top and the entire video presentation would just roll out. That was pretty cutting edge.
