From our point of view the fashion is very much related to the sales as sales Executive represent the organisation, their appierance and looks define the organisation, its culture and the product value.

therefore we accept the point. but the fashion must have a limit to be presentable.

I think no matter what profession you are in you will be judged by your appearance.  Even if you have great character, people meeting you for the first time wont know that.  Taking care of your health and not being too casual at work helps.

I think especially if you are young, and a woman, noone will take you seriously in the sales world if you are dressed like a kid.  I'm not in sales yet, but I am definitely going to start shopping for businessy blouses, coats, and heels!

Fashion and sales. You must look professonal. You must be presentable. In style fashion? I do not think so. Most sales people still have the same hair style they had 30 years ago.

For women short skirt, low neckline. Guess where the focus will be.Men tacky plaid pants or shirts. You get the picture. Basic dressing for the desired professional look. You deal with bankers you want to dress like bankers.

OMG YES.

You HAVE to look the part to convince other people that what you say is a good idea.  And isn't that what selling is all about??

Look put together and well groomed, and you'd be surprised how far that gets you.

one more thing... who would you take advice from:

a) the guy who has a mullet and a leisure suit on

b) someone who looks like they are on your level. (i.e. clean, pressed shirt or blouse in a complementing color, nice pants in a neutral color, unscuffed shoes)

I KNOW WHO I WOULD PICK!  i think the key here is to be neutral.  In sales you have to meet a lot of different kinds of people and be on each one's level.  To do that, you have to be neutral, yet likeable.  obviously personality has something to do with it too but looks are the first thing people see.

mullet and leisure suit. Do no believe they would be in sales today. Did love the symbolism and picture which you painted. Lets compare those in a 500 or above dollar suit and another who may be  dressed in dockers an a nice pressed shirt. Which one would you believe would  try to give you the best possible deal.

Now lets put together a scene .Multi million dollar land deal. Car? Home? New air conditioner for your home? That is why it is a must to fit the clients needs. Meet with bankers and high profile deals you need to dress the part.  You can say as much with  how you dress as to what you verbally say. You must give the perception you live in their world.

I have never looked at a person, how they are dressed nd said to myself I can trust  that person.

It is certainly all about the clothes you wear. If you are well groomed you will be well received, even if you don't make the sale the first time. It says alot about you as a person that if you look put together you are more believable. And this applies if you are selling a million dollar home or a thumbtack.  It says you take pride in yourself and what you are selling.

I don't however think you need to wear your price tag on the outside of your clothing. How would anyone know you are wearing a $500 suit from Nordstrom or a $100 suit from Men's Warehouse as long as it fit well, was clean and suited the occasion. (no pun intended!)  The guy in the dockers and nice pressed shirt would certainly be appropriately dressed if his selling arena were more casual, say in a furniture store.  Heck, the realtor that sold me my house wore dockers and golf shirts and even tho my house was under a mil, his clean, casual appearance gave me the feeling he was not "above" me.  I agree that your clothing must fit the clients needs, so don't be too quick to dis the dockers.
