Any bad stories about horrible bosses and sales managers? I had a boss one time who made me sing happy birthday to his daugher with him on speaker phone. That sucked.

My boss is disgusting.  I am so happy to have a place to unload my revulsion.  He is 400 lbs and wears these nasty stained sweatpants every day.  I swear he only has one pair of pants.  It is his company and he is a manager so he does not have to meet with clients.  He just rakes in our money to buy food for himself!  Ugh.

I have a boss that has little management experience (but is a good politician) and a little big man complex. Trust me that combination makes for a lousey work environment. My best method of dealing with him is ignororing him completely unless I have to talk with him, and going ahead and doing what I know is right anyway.

I worked at a hotel in Brunswick, Maine last summer. I was hired as a head housekeeper and when I got my pay, my boss didn't pay me what he promised, shuffled my hours in the payroll records to prevent paying me over-time. I got even though. When I walked out on the final day, I told him quite loudly, so guests could hear, "Don't mess with an American" ! Well, by the time I was finished with that lousey crooked boss, he ended up having to pay me and 15 other people back over-time, some going back to when he bought the place (2.5 years) fire his non english speaking illegal alien brother-in-law & have a "nice" visit from O.S.H.A, who forced him to implement a saftey program and Material Safety Data Sheets. I could have done more, but decided to not be too much of an &%^#&*!  Don't put up with jerks. Make 'em pay!

I worked for a lawyer a couple summers ago.  I was hired as a legal assistant and did a bunch of clerical work.  One day my boss asked me to come into his office for a moment.  I went in his office and he asked me to shine his shoes.  I luaghed and said "you're kidding, right?"  He frowned and told me this was no joke, but had to go to court later that day and that ne needed a good shining.  I said "With all due respect, sir, I'm not shining your shoes".  He told me my job was at stake, so I told him, "You can stick those overpriced italian loafers up your ass, I quit"

In hindsight I'm proud that I didn't bow down to the all powerful boss, and I have a much metter job now anyway.

This just happened this past week. I was with a co worker. I found out while with him observing he did not know the difference between empathy and sympathy. He lost a nice job due to not knowing the difference. At the present we have 3 sales techs who do not understand the difference between sympathy and empathy.

I spoke with the owner as he is having a difficult time understanding why so many  are not closing. I sat with him ,we discussed the problem.I even went as far as looking up and writting down the definiion for both to pass out.

At our meting we decided to go over this. It was at that moment I understood exactly why most of our people are having difficulty. Our owner does not know the difference. He belittled  and made fun of what I was trying to accomplish for him. He claimed empathy was  you yourself have occured the same instance  or emotional feeling which allowed you to relate to your client. You can't have empathy  unless you yourself hav encountered said problem.

His example his father died at 40 so he was able to show empathy towards another man who lost his father when he was at 40. I claim it is not neccessary to have lost your father to undestand the loss. Your able to participatre in the feeling without having to encounter the subjective  concern .

I explained knowing the feeling and what he described was sympathy not empathy.

The dictionary terminology  of empathy is: imaginative or subjective emotion with the capacity to participate an understanding. He siad the dictionary is wrong. Wonder whyt he people are failing,we have an owner who does not understand sales and  or closing.

A new boss started 14 months ago, agenda- To eliminate unneeded costs! One would typically say this is good however, her idea of eliminating costs were to strike out employees and their salaries; thus, getting rid of the top paid individuals who had major responsibilities and were an intriquet part of where the business was as of today. The witch was hired as a Leader of the department and a leader she was "NOT"...she set individuals up by lying about their job performances, actually looked for things to use against them and document everything out of context. She set things up so it was a she said, they said type of situations. After 3 1/2 months of hell with her and fighting with the organization, my 15 years were over. Good Luck cost cutter!!! Karma goes around...

How about a boss who is the owner's son...who pays himself very generously, does not come into the office for days at a time, and is losing business hand over fist. They hire me as a Marketing Manager, refused to allow any advertising, no advertising budget. Come to find out they have no company business plan, no long term plan--employees have been there years with no reviews, no raises, no bonuses...well except for himself. I tried to implement customer surveys...I had to run them on the copy machine and buy the cards at Target-hand wrote them all. When they were returned and the comments were negative--he would toss them in the trash. God forbid you follow up on a customer complaint!!!!  Customers would pay for products w/ upgrades, not get them and his response would be "did we get our money?" If the answer was "yes" then the customer would end up just getting screwed. If "no" then he wouldn't do anything for them until we got our money. I came to this company from a huge Fortune 10 company and I can tell you I have NEVER in my life seen such underhanded, shitty and down right dumb ass lack of ethics in my life.

To cut costs to keep the company afloat, he put all the sales people on full commission...they lost all accrued vacation, sick time, etc. with no notice. He also announced at that meeting (why I will never know) that while everyone in the room would take a financial "hit" he and his dad would remain at the same pay-he told everyone there that he felt that they "deserved" it. Real morale booster there!!

My first job was at Wendy's... The store was crazy busy all the time, being that it was the last exit before downtown...But the assistant manager that I worked under most of the time was a slob and a freak! His policy was to take all the meat that was overdone, fell on the floor, returned because of some mistake or whatever tossed into a communituy pot for THE CHILI!! It set in a pot cooking all day everyday and we just added chili mix to it as needed. But I hated it and voiced my opinion about it frequently... He did not like it... So, one day my shift just starting for the evening, he says to me grab the drive thru window it is yours... As soon as my headset was on I look out the DT window and see someone reach up to knock on it... As soon as I open the window he flings a burger at me, which hits me directly in the face... (come to find out, the manger already had talked to this guy on the speaker and had words with him and new he was coming up to argue more). Well, my Ass. Manager grabs me by the feet as I am climbing out of the DT window at the guy and pulls me back in... I turn around and he starts yelling at me for my behavior... so, standing at the front counter with 50 people in the restaurant watching I take of my uniform (yes, I mean my ENTIRE uniform) and hand it to him... walk out and drive home.

How about getting hired by K-Mart as an Assistant Manager (tranfered from another store in a different state) directly by the District manager and make more money than your boss the Hardlines Manger (#2 in the store)? My boss goes thru my locker and finds my pay stub. Then completey goes insane (albeit somewhat justifiably). I have never worked with someone before with such an obvious hatred for me. Thinking back it was almost comical how my boss would create problems to blame on me. The funny thing was that the GM and DM of the store all new why and dismissed my boss so quickly it made his head spin. He would get madder by the day. He confronted me about it and I told him that hey this was my salary that I negotiated for at the other store. If he wanted more money then he needed to change his negotiation techniques, and don't blame me! Wow, he did NOT like that... HEHE. He made my life so miserable! Then I got a better job offer somewhere else and left. WIN WIn for everyone.
