Okay, heres my dilemna: About a month ago I was laid off due to downsizing, I waited around to find a decent gig in sales. I was just about to take an hourly job (which I didnt want), when the phone rang. It was an offer to due payment processing, I read as much as I could about the industry and felt that with my strong network and some preset appt's, and a good product line I felt I couldn't go wrong. Now I have found myself going to dead end leads (empty buildings) and home businesses, not exactly what I pictured, but what ever is. Now I have used almost every resource I had to make it through the last month. I have only been running appointments for about two weeks but I am feeling a touch of discouragement. Yesterday I was offered an interview with a media advertising company, and a base pay. So the question is do I keep pressing on in this payment processing company or due I go for the safety net of the sales job with the base salary? I know that neither are going to be easy,  since I am in Florida and there are alot of businesses shutting their doors. Any comments?

It couldn't hurt to go on the interview at the other place.  It definitely sounds more interesting and profitable.  Make sure when you go on the interview to ask questions and find out if it would be the right place for you.

There's nothing wrong with taking a better opportunity, so why not check out the other place and see if the grass IS greener on the other side.

Good luck,

Gina, thanks for the commnets. I decided to speak with the recruiter, and I feel it might be the right choice for me. I have set an appointment for an interview, so I just have to go in and knock their socks off. The selling style is more fitting to my personality, which I think is important in this business; if you're not comfortable with yourself the prospect wont be either.

Move on! Payment processing is extremely difficult and they make it sound like it is easy. Those companies go through sales people like water. Very competitive and once someone has a processor they don't want to change as it is very difficult to make that change. It is definitely not what the companies make it out to be as far as a "lucrative" job. NEXT!!!

How did it go????

I too got laid off because my employer wasn't bringing in enough revenue to pay me.  It sucked big time, but now I have a job I love.

What I did was sit down and REALLY think through what I wanted to be doing, and I only applied for jobs that fit that description.  So if the second thing doesnt work out, post back on here and we can help you figure shit out.

GOOD LUCK MAN!!!!  It's a tough economy out there, for sellers especially.

In Sales there is "No Honor in going down with the ship" Doing anything that is not making you money or (giving you some other pleasure) is a waste of your time and talent. In tough a economy employers are looking to get max return on their investment so there is lots of opportunity for us in sales.  Keep looking until you find something satisfying and pays you what you are worth. It's out there you just have to look

Good Luck

I find this intersting I am wondering why I did not read this awhile ago.

What strikes me and what I have seen over the years ,frustration  that turns into being discouraged which leads to  lack of motivation means you must find a place where you can be motivated. This sounds to me as if you placed youself in the best possible situation even though it was not where you wanted to be.We do this when we are unsure of what the future holds for us. We accept  positions even though it is not the best fit ,just to be working. I applaud you for wanting to work right away after you lost a job.It shows you have a great work ethic, integrity with these attriibutes do not settle for whatever comes your way.

Hopefully you went to the interview, received the job where you can be motivated to succeed.
