Tired of making someone else rich?

I have worked in retail for over 30 years. The first company,a 7 store music retailer, I sold about 1.5 million dollars per year. The second company, Big Box Retailer (BB),I worked 12 years, and sold over a million dollars of proucts per year. Now I am working for myself. Finally I have opportunity to drive a successful business. I was tired of making other people wealthy from my hard work. Have you started your own business because of the same reason? Please share your stories with the rest of us. I am a new member of the Entreprenuer Inc.Group. Best Wishes...Hurricanemurph 6/24/08. |

| Posted 2 months ago As Kit stated the risk and reward are great. Starting a business depends greatly on how much energy you possess. You must be willing to put all of your time and effort to get off the ground. If you decide to start at this time it is a perfect time to begina business. With a downtrend economy you have time to build the company the right way when the economy swings upward you have all the pieces in the right place in order to become highly successful. The slow economy forces you to maintain goals, set a business plan with no shortcuts.Allows your base to become fundamentally sound, practicing better business and that perfect practice allows for the best of the best to operate in a great economy.Often times with a great economy the little things that make you become successful are overlooked. Items sold even when sold wrong are overlooked.Services provided are shortcutted as a new client will be there tomorrow. I remember in the 80's having to put in 16-18 hour days in order to become successful.Make sure your priorities are set in gold. I do disagree working for someone else does not allow you to live comfortable.Pick and choose the work you do. Pick and choose the effort and dollars you want out of what your doing. Most allow the company to interview you for the job, turn that around and you interview them. I do not make as much as I made when I had my own business. However looking at per hour I make more now.Looking at babysitting employees I now go home and I do not have to think how did my people do today. What did they accomplish and what will they do tomorrow? Was something said or done that was not completely honest or ethical.Did my book keeper make the ledger right or is there a dollar mistake. Let me see how I can keep the cash flow coming and how to invest when times are slow to keep the employees and company running smoothly.Insurance, incentives, payroll, licenses, bonding, building, vehicles etc.All things I do not miss having to deal with on a daily basis. I wish I had the energy some of you have,I have to congradulate you on your high level of energy. What I did learn, build the business, build the relationships, sell the business at the right time. I always wondered who would want to buy a business when it is so easy to start a business. After 15 years I foundo ut who wanted to buy a business. If I would have been smarter I would have sold it quite a few years earlier.People love to own a business that is successful. I am here to learn and help others in search of information. With everyone having a common goal we should be able to help one another grow in our professional and personal lives. |
