I really want to make the switch. I sell car insurance now, which is very very different. I don't know what kind of science or pharmaceutical background I need to try and get hired. Anyone know the deal?

Get to know reps. They are your best chance at an inside track with a hiring manager. I personally tend to look for no Rx experience for a multitude of reasons. A good resume helps with goals defined by positions held. Go with a traditional resume- I'm seeing a lot of junk lately with education, personal attributes, and other "fluff" before an objective and employment history. Another tip- if you paid for college yourself, put that down, rather than clouding your resume with a bunch of pt time jobs and bogus internships.

I do not mean to be sarcastic, however im my opinion pharma is not sales, it is detailing.
It entails catering lunch to doctors offices 5 days a week. It also entails arranging dinners in the evening at fine restaurants to get the doctor to come a listen to a speaker. The doctor is honestly only coming for the free dinner.

Pharma Sales People are true sales people that do what they have to do because of the culture in the industry. However, and the reality is, Pharma reps. have a reputation that echos what the previous poster was articulating.
