Buyology and the Study of Buying Behavior

Posted about 1 month ago I'm a nerd, and was a psych major...which probably speaks to why I'm starting this topic. I found this article, a book review on the book Buy.ology: The Truth and Lies About Why We Buy, fascinating.
The book gives a review of studies done of people's brain activity during commercials...and it has some interesting findings.
The two I thought were most interesting were that sex sells itself better than products and that subliminal advertising is actually effective. I supposed I had believed the opposite! Any thoughts? |

| Posted about 1 month ago LOL, I think you read too much "Plato" in school. I have to laugh because look at the two topics you found the most striking. The ones they wanted you to. I don't get the "there's an apple on the table: is it really there, or are we just visualizing that it's there". You'll have to give me some time for this one Kit. Great discussion to start though. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Quite a few years ago I had an instructor teach the ways of the mind and how to push the right buttons in the right part of the brain to signal buying signals.I was trying to locate the booklet he gave out .He was on the same wave length that this article suggests. Yeah I think they are right ,the showing of a coke can sitting on a table.Isn't this the same reason they stopped showing people smoking in the movies? A few weeks ago they did something on the tube .Which verified sex sells but the people watching the ad could not remember the product but remembered what the girl looked like and what she was doing I am here to learn and help others in search of information. With everyone having a common goal we should be able to help one another grow in our professional and personal lives. |
