| Posted about 1 month ago C sorry to hear. I cannot imagine having a difficult move like you are experiencing.I do know how difficult it can be once you have become accustomed to living a certain life style. I think this is one of the hardest obstacles to overcome with the position you are finding yourself involved with.Best of luck on handling this obstacle. The one source you can pull from, you were in this position at least one time before, pull on that experience to tell you what you need to do. I am here to learn and help others in search of information. With everyone having a common goal we should be able to help one another grow in our professional and personal lives. |

| Posted about 1 month ago So sorry to here what happened. Unfortunately, family contracts can be very consuming and it makes it even harder to focus on what you'd like to do because you not only lost a job, but lost family. When I was laid off over a month ago, I felt like sticking my head in a hole and hiding forever. I called every single person I knew and let them know that I was prospecting for new employment. I called "every" person I ever acquainted with from past employers, from people I did business with when I was in business for self, friends I knew in every nook and crannie. This is a suggestion, and your probably not going to like it but here goes: (I live in Canada and we have an employment centre where they assess your skills and will give you free training, "yes free training", to upgrade or whatever) surely in the U.S. you have something similar. Go there and take the tests and review with someone your options. They will be brutally honest. Then sit down and write down 5 things you disliked about where you worked before and 5 things you didn't. This will help you focus on perhaps changes towards a new career goal. There are alot of intelligent people in this web site that can help you, give free advice, be painfully honest, and keep you focused. So if you have a question, don't be afraid to start a discussion, as everyone will be willing to help. It's not to say we can find you work, but we can perhaps help you "PLAN" your alternatives. Don't kid yourself, it's going to be hard, I am still looking and the market is fierce up here in Ontario Canada. I get up every morning and treat it like I heading off to work. I hit the computer, do resumes and hit the pavement (after scouting businesses in my area). So, let us know what your thinking, what type of business were you in? |

| Posted about 1 month ago Thanks guys I appreciate the responses. I was in the auto industry and still am currently doing som free lance for a frien of mine that owns a Chevy dealership. I was fortunate enough to have a phone interview today with Siemens Medical and it went very well. I am working and making a bit of money, but as you say the financial position is less than 30% of wwhat I have become accustomed to. I agree that I was once here and need to go back to this and that is why I am interviewing outside of the auto industry. Im sure many of us have been told what I have been hearing everyday. I have too much exoerience in 1 field and not much else. I feel that if your in sales that you can adapt and sell anything. Managing 65 employees and signing their checks every friday is like constantly selling yourself to them everyday week. I, to answer your question, am looking to get an outside salees job in a business to business field. Medical equipment, pharm., and possibly collections for hospitals, banks, and any company that extends credit. I finally also get up everyday and treat this hunt like a job. I am on one hand pleased that I found this site, I guess this is one good thing that has come from it. |

| Posted about 1 month ago C_Dub First of all I am sorry to hear about your situation.. Secondly, I am glad you have accepted what is, and are moving forward. I don't know what people are making on this ite, but I know what I make in my industry and what friends make in others. At the end of the day salesmanship and leadership drive sucess when jumping industries....I was forced into once because of a non-compete clause...I stuck with it for a year and it was hard, and the learning curve for that was absolutlely insane.... I learned alot from doing that though, but did return to my chosen industry.. Couple questions?
Where are you located? My company has about 252 locations across the US.... Reps are making about 100k - 250k. on average; unless they suck...You don't articulate like that would be the situation.. I have been over that mark since i was 25 and continue to grow my income....I'd be happy to chat with you and see what I can do.

| Posted about 1 month ago Yes I have moved on as I cant just sit around licking my wounds and feeling sorry for myself. I would appreciate any help you could offer. I am located in the Chicagoland area and am near Northwest Indiana as well so either area would work if you have any network around there for possible opportunities. I do feel my 15 years of a wide variety in sales experience and the past 4 of ownership give me a great amount of on the job education to bring forward to another field. I do realize that the change at first will probably not be a cake walk but as my father has always said. "if it comes easy everyone would be doing it" so this dosent scare me as much as I take it as a challenge. Im very self motivated and refuse to fail at anything. I guess when Im committed, like I was to my company, I live my work and enjoy and embrace it. I do agree with selerina about the organizations and I am an active member of my chamber and also a private boat club here in my area. I have found over the years these are great places to network and have built mine this way. I did have a leg up as my family owned a beer distributor in the area for 30years and this greatly helps you obtain a whole bunch of friends, wanted and some un-wanted. |

| Posted about 1 month ago You have a great attitude C-Dub! That will only help you during this rough patch. I have a feeling that hard work in networking and learning a new sales area will pay off for you big time!
I was amazed at the networking skills of a friend of mine who moved back to the US after working in England. He wanted to get into corporate finance but had no contacts in the field, and he left his business network in Europe. I was amazed at how he networked and found mentors. A friend of a friend at Deloitte met him for coffee...a fraternity brother put him in touch with another contact. He got his real estate license... after 6 months...he found a great job in a new field. Real Estate Finance. The bad news is he just got laid off becase of the economic down turn. But with his attitude and ability to find a niche...I think he'll be ok! |

| Posted about 1 month ago C-Dub...I'm going through a change now myself. I worked for a huge corporation and my job moved to another state and I chose not to relocate. I've been off for a week now...I am looking at starting my own business...have you thought of that? For my own personal...I have lots of industry knowledge/experience and I know who my competition is so, I'm actually pretty excited for my future...I would have to say do something you love. Have faith in yourself and you will get back on top...don't settle. Best of Luck! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I'm seriously thinking about starting my own advertising agency. I would love a great opportunity just like the next...however, this is where I'm leaning towards...I feel like this is a good time in my life to give it a shot. I'm in sales....I would just be selling for myself, pretty much the same sales call. Thanks Seller! |
