What do you men think? Do you think your sales career has helped your love life? Are you a closer? :)

Selling is selling, whether you're selling stock or selling yourself in a bar. And I am good at selling stock...

Depends on the sales person. Some people do a bad job but do the numbers and somehow make a living. I've seen these guys in action at the bar and it's not pretty! Pretty soon they're looking for a new place to hang out.

Interesting...I worth with software geeks so I thought thats what was hurting their game. Perhaps it does depend on the sales person. Just because you can talk shop doesn't mean you can chat up a girl well.

I have personally not been so lucky with the ladies...I guess I have been "lucky" with the ladies, but not lucky with the ladies. I do believe my sales experience helps me communicate and entertain women I am dating. I think my issues relate to choosing the wrong type of girl...the last 3 have all been very insecure and always think I'm cheating on them. I guess I attract pretty, insecure chicks...not so lucky if you ask me!

Being great with women and closing deals can be two completely different things.

I can see a lot of sales men disagreeing with me on this, and admittedly my views are a bit outside of the mainstream when it comes to relationships, but I would find it offensive to categorically relate the two. And I have done many things to close a deal that I would feel terrible if I had to resort to use with women.

If you view women as conquests to be had, then yes, I suppose it's similar to closing a deal, but in all my relationships (from one night stands, to years long "commitments") I have never taken this view.

Don't treat relationships like business.

Not healthy.

With that said, looking like a million bucks, and having a keen EQ, two good traits to have in sales, has definitely helped me with women.

Well said Dan! Don't treat relationships as business or deals...."closing" women is not healthy, and using "strategies" is so inauthentic. Seriously consider that or else you will be looking a very limited spectrum of relationships in your life.

I myself have felt very "closed" a couple of times in my life. Not pleasant. "Caveat Emptor"

I believe that all sales is selling yourself.  Absolutely it helps to sell a great product, but they are buying you as a person, they are buying your personality, your looks, your knowledge, and their confidence in the service they think you will provide.  If you do well with the ladies you should be able to do well in sales.  Its the looks, the confidence, your sense of humor, your honesty and sincerity.  All of these things are what helps you to do well with the ladies as well as selling your product or service.

I think women are usually intuitive, and can smell a sketchball from a mile away.  I agree that authenticity and good listening are key in all relationships just as they are in sales.  If you aren't listening to your customer, or a girl when they are talking to you, and try to impose your will on the situation, you are more likely to turn people off.

I'm in complete agreement about women & intuition. We develop our intuition quickly & listen to it frequently. Many women can sense if the man to whom they are speaking is just trying to close in & get something he wants or if he's genuinely interested. There may be characteristics of a salesperson that help men/women in their love lives, but I wouldn't want a man using his sales techniques to try to get my attention. To me, that screams sleeze to the sleeze!!

Hey Rich,

thats funny! Anyway guys I am far from a 'Cassanova' or a 'Mac Daddy' but in sales, there are certain things that you just don't do: for example, you are having a bad day, that's your business, get your behind out there and sell something! Or a client irritates the heck out of you, you don't even let them know, 'cause you are a professional! Or deep inside you are really a 'child at heart', but people don't want that, so get your childish ass out of here and find me a sales person!

What I am saying is this; If I have to take that approach with any lady/ girl/ woman, I don't think that would be healthy. in other words, Sales causes you to be who you really are not, at times, even when you would really like to be. If I am attempting to get with any lady that I cannot be honest with, or at the very least, let down my guard with, then what is the point!

Not a party pooper but come on guys, time to step up! We're Sales People, remember? We're supposed to be full of integrity, not full of...!!!

I just had my 5th anniversary with my  wife and we are  expecting our second baby girl anyday...I have never tried to use sales tactics on my wife; however I do think that she sold me on a couple of things....

I treat her like a lady not a commodity, and the truth be told, she doesn't have to sell me, I would do anything for her......

Sometimes, I feel like I work with a bunch of idiots, some cannot sell and pick up women and some could sell ice to eskimos all day long and couldn't close a deal with the girl if she was waiting in his car.

With that being said, if you are going to try and "close the deal" at a barl for a cheap thrill, get a hooker and close your mouth.

Hahaha!   Amen 5050!

Usually with women...the less you try for a particular result, and just be yourself, the more you get out of the experience.
